Ride-hailing firm Bolt has revised its fares by four per cent following the recent fuel price hike by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

Last week EPRA increased petrol and diesel prices by Ksh5 per litre, taking the cost of the two commodities to a high notch. The cost of petrol and diesel increased to Ksh134.72 and Ksh115.6 per litre respectively

Following the adjustment Bolt has now increased its fares per kilometre for rides in line with the higher cost of fuel.

In a statement issued on Monday, 22nd April, Bolt said the price increases will protect the earnings of drivers on the platform.

“Bolt the leading on demand transport platform in Africa has revised its fares by 4 per cent following the recent fuel price hike by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA),” Bolt said.

“This has resulted in a matching increment in the Per Km fares for Bolt rides, by Ksh0.47 for each km completed on-trip.”

Under its light category, it has been increased from Ksh150 to Ksh180 and the start fee from Ksh55 to Ksh70.

Bolt previously charged Ksh26.90 per kilometre on its budget ride category (dubbed Lite), and the new changes will see the prices go up to Ksh27.37 per kilometre in Nairobi.

Other Bolt categories affected include; Bolt Base, Bolt Green and Bolt Women Only, which will also have similar increases in fare per km.

The XL category will increase by Ksh0.66 per kilometer.
