Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested three people in connection with the kidnapping of a 79-year-old man in Kitale.

Kennedy Bosire Nyabwari disappeared on 6th June after setting off for Kisii County from his Kitale home at around 5:30pm, on the fateful day.

According to the DCI sleuths, Nyabwari called his wife at around 9pm, informing her that he would spend the night in Kitale Town, before proceeding to Kisii early the following morning.

However, when she called her husband the following day at around 4pm, his phone went unanswered.

At 8:30pm, she received a call from strangers who told her that they were holding her husband captive and demanded a ransom of Ksh2 million.

“Terrified, the woman dialed our #FichuakwaDCI toll-free line and informed us of her predicament,” the DCI said in a statement.

“A team of detectives from the Special Service Unit and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, supported by investigators based in Kitale, was immediately mobilised to track down the kidnappers, who were demanding ransom.”

Last night, the detectives with stealth and precision, rescued the man from his captors at a house on the outskirts of Kitale Town.

The three suspects, Grace Kerubo Nyakundi, Samwel Atunya Makori, and Richard Okari Matunda, were arrested.

A motorbike allegedly used by the suspects to ferry the victim and a gunnysack used to blindfold the old man were also recovered.

Detectives are pursuing another suspect identified as Jackson Nyakundi Atei.
