The traffic snarl up at the Kenya-Uganda border has drastically reduced as officials race to clear the backlog ahead by Wednesday.

More customs officials and equipment have been dispatched to the border post to assist in clear cargo and persons crossing the border.

Last week Kenya and Uganda officials agreed on modalities to have a single Covid-19 certificate to ease the movement of goods and services across the two countries.

With the deadline fast approaching the 80 kilometres backlog in the Malaba border has drastically reduced to 25 kilometres with the Busia border that had stretched 30 kilometres reduced to 8 kilometers.

East African Business Council is calling for a unified Covid-19 certificate in the East African Community to ease the cost of business in the region.

Traders transporting horticultural produce in the east African region have been advised to seek transport and inspection certificate before-hand to reduce congestion at the border points.

Last year the Ugandan government had placed a 3,000 shillings mandatory Covid 19 vaccination for visitors causing an uproar from truck drivers and traders.
