Transport Chief Administration Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti is the latest state officer to resign to focus on her political ambitions of becoming the next Machakos governor.

This will be her third bid at the gubernatorial seat. She made the announcement at a press conference Friday morning.

“I will be running for the governorship of Machakos County. I am fully aware of the challenges on the ground and I’m armed with a strong resolve to put the county back on the path of prosperity My clarion call is: ‘Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni” she said.

Her move is in line with a government directive and the electoral commission timelines requiring all public servants seeking elective offices in the August 9 General to step down by February 9th.

“A public officer who intends to contest in the General Election shall resign from public office within six (6) months before the date of Election being on or before Wednesday, 9th February,
2022” states IEBC in a gazette notice.

With only three working days to go, more officers are expected to follow suit.

She thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the opportunity to work in the Transport and Infrastructure sector.

“Kenya will never be the same again with the infrastructure we have now. We have worked with the President well and I thank him so much.”

The former Kathiani Member of Parliament is one of the most popular Kamba female politicians.

She won the parliamentary seat in 2007 and served for one term.  She unsuccessfully contested the Machakos gubernatorial election in the 2013 and 2017 general elections.

Prior to her appointment in 2020,  Ndeti was serving as the chairperson of the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI).
