Tunisia: Jerandi Holds Phone Call With His Kenyan Counterpart

Tunis/Tunisia — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerdandi, on Monday, had a phone call with his Kenyan counterpart Raychelle Omamo.

The two ministers agreed to update the legal framework governing relations between Tunisia and Kenya. They expressed will to boost bilateral cooperation so as to overcome potential challenges, said a statement from the Foreign Affairs Department.

Tthey discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, notably those within the UN Security Council. Both Tunisia and Kenya are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Jerandi suggested a set of coordination mechanisms between African non-permanent members, namely Tunisia, Kenya and Niger.

Omamo welcomed Tunisia’s proposal which will be discussed later within a tripartite framework before implementing it according to a consensual timetable.

The Kenyan Minister commended Tunisia’s efforts in addressing issued debated at the Security Council. He referred, in particular, to the problems encountered by African countries, namely security issues and an unprecedented health crisis.
