The Ministry of Health on Saturday, 25th December, announced 3,749 new Covid-19 cases, raising the country’s caseload to 281,358.
In a statement to the newsrooms, Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, said the latest figure had been derived from 11,460 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 2,987,255 the cumulative number of Covid-19 tests conducted. The country’s positivity rate is now at 32.7 per cent.
From the new cases, 3,415 of them are Kenyans while 334 are foreigners with 1,739 being males and 2,010 females. The youngest is an eight-month-old child while the oldest is 92.
Some 243 patients have recovered, 186 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 57 are from various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,937.
Sadly, two patients have succumbed to the disease pushing the cumulative fatalities to 5,359.
There are 703 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 15,302 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.
At the same time, 17 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 10 of them on ventilatory support while seven are on supplemental oxygen.
Another 135 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 130 of them are in the general wards and five patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Vaccination: As of 24th December 2021, a total of 9,534,806 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,618,295 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,916,511.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.4 per cent.
