Two suspects have been arrested for kidnapping a six-year-old in Pipeline Estate, Nairobi.

The two, Ezekiel Nyamawi Nyakundi and James Bundi Mabeya were arrested on Monday, 21 September in Mashimoni, area 10 of Mathare valley.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from the Special Service Unit traced the boy to Mashimoni where he had been left at the kidnapper’s house.

After rescuing the minor, the sleuths laid an ambush in the kidnappers’ house arrested them when they returned to the house.

“Out of boredom, the minor had strayed into a neighbouring shanty where he found other children playing and joined them, before being found by our agents,” DCI said.

The boy has since been reunited with his family.

The minor was kidnapped on Saturday from Kware Central SDA Church in Pipeline, where he had gone to church with his mother Regina Boyani.

Sleuths narrated that the kidnapper pretended to be a congregant in the church and approached the minor who was playing with another kid in the church, and promised to buy them chips if they followed him.

The other kid returned to church after he was given five shillings.

Upon realising her son was missing, Boyani filled a missing child report at Embakasi Police Station and the matter was escalated to the SSU.

Detectives said that preliminary investigations indicate that the two suspects are behind a series of kidnappings that have rocked the Pipeline area in recent days.

The DCI have called on parents to be extra vigilant on the whereabouts of their children.
