Several passengers have been injured and one person is feared dead following a road accident in Kinungi area, along the Nairobi Nakuru Highway on Monday morning, May 30.
In a statement issued by St John Ambulance Kenya, the accident involved 7 private cars, a 14-seater Matatu and a truck.
The accident caused a huge traffic snarl-up with cars being diverted from the highway. At the time of publishing this article, police had arrived at the scene in a bid to control the situation.
Motorists were warned to drive with extra caution due to slippery roads.
Further, another vehicle on Monday morning slid and rolled over along the Southern bypass. This highlighted the grave situation whereby motorists ought to drive with extra care during the rainy season which causes poor visibility.
Kenyans online also urged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to look into the causes of various accidents along the Kinungi area.
On February 28, 2022, four people died in a grisly accident along the same spot. This occurred after their Toyota Probox rammed into the rear of a truck that was ferrying construction materials.
The latest report by NTSA indicated that 1345 people had lost their lives in road accidents from the beginning of the year to April 11, 2022. This translated to a 15 percent increase as compared to 1168 fatalities recorded over a similar period the previous year.
