Hot on the heels of the much-speculated sour relationship between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, a report has emerged that the two top leaders could have had a 7-hour meeting at State House Nairobi ahead of Monday’s Madaraka Day celebrations.
A report by the Standard has brought to the fore the speculation of the two leaders having a meeting.
In their reporting dubbed All eyes on Ruto as Uhuru allies dismiss reports o weaken his post, the local daily reported that the two leaders are believed to have met ahead to the National celebrations that will be held at State House.
According to the daily, State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena Mararo could not deny or confirm the meeting, raising further the speculation.
“Today’s event at State House comes in the wake of claims of a Saturday meeting between the pair which could neither be denied by Kenyatta’s Spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararo,” reads in part the report by the Standard.
DP Ruto’s Director of Communication Emmanuel Tallam did not either rule out the possibility of the two leaders meeting saying that though he was not aware of such meeting, the DP has been having regular meeting with the president before.
“I am not aware of that meeting. If there was one, it must be one of those regular ones between the president and his Deputy,” said Tallam.
However, according to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi who spoke to the Standard, the two leaders had met adding hat the meeting is not unusual since the two leaders have a duty to Kenyans hence the need to meet regularly.
“We know there are those who do not want to hear that the two meet, they rejoice in the perceived sour relationship. The two met, they have a mandate to deliver and they must work together. I am not however privy to what they discussed,” said Sudi
The speculation comes at a time when the country will be waiting to see whether the DP will attend the Madaraka day celebrations amidst the ongoing purge in the Jubilee Party targeting his allies.
Several DP Ruto’s allies have been sacked from plum positions at the Senate-Assembly raising eyebrow whether the DP and his boss are reading from the same script.
