Politicians who have stood with President Uhuru Kenyatta throughout his administration received some good news yesterday after the Head of State offered to reciprocate.
Speaking during a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at State House in Nairobi, the President said he will help his allies seek re-election.
He said he will personally fund campaigns for Jubilee candidates in the upcoming election. The Kenyan leader told the lawmakers that he is not stingy and would help them retain their seats.
Apart from financing, the Jubilee leader will also hit the campaign trail to market his preferred successor and Jubilee contenders. Litkenya.com reliably understands that the President is grooming ODM leader Raila Odinga to take over from him.
This is a blow to Deputy President William Ruto, who will now have to dip deeper into his pockets to popularise his presidential bid and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
During the 2017 General Election, one of the biggest challenges the opposition led by Raila and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka faced was a lack of resources to match Jubilee campaigns.
At some point, the National Super Alliance (Nasa) was so overwhelmed and requested its supporters to fund the coalition’s political activities.
On the other hand, President Kenyatta and his deputy Ruto, who had already served one term, were flying from one area to another, thanks to their incumbency.
Jubilee-ODM Marriage
Jubilee Party is planning to hold its National Delegates Conference (NDC) on February 25 and 26 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi.
Recently, Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni revealed that the President, who will be the chief guest at the convention, will endorse the former Prime Minister for President.
Coincidentally, Raila’s ODM will also hold its NDC on the same dates at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
Impeccable sources have intimated that the two parties, which are under Azimio la Umoja, will then match to Nyayo Stadium, where a big announcement will be made.
