‘Uhuru Umetutesa, Umetuhangaisha’: DP Ruto Cries in Thika

“You’ve made your people suffer in the last four-and-a-half years.”

These were the words Deputy President William Ruto used to describe his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday at Thika Stadium, Kiambu County.

The DP claimed that Kenyans have nothing to celebrate in the second term of President Kenyatta’s administration.

In a bare-knuckle attack, the second in command said the only legacy the Head of State will secure is betraying those who stood with him at the hours of need.

He recalled how his allies have been harassed and removed from parliamentary committees as well as breaking the Jubilee Party into two.

“We branded us names like Tangatanga, garbage, and thieves. But I want to remind you, we the people you are insulting and intimidating went around the country with you and prayed for you. We ensured Kenyans voted for you to become President.

“Despite doing all bad things to us, we have been calm. But because we fear God, we have forgiven you, may God deal with you. We will not forget,” he said.

Dr Ruto also criticised the President for attacking church leaders. He told his boss to avoid going that route since clerics prayed for him when he was implicated at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the 2007-08 post-election violence (PEV).

The taunting comes barely a day after the President formally endorsed ODM leader Raila Odinga to replace him in August during the Azimio la Umoja national delegates conference.

The Kenyan leader was categorical that his deputy is unfit to rule.

He added that the former Prime Minister would form a government of national unity that will bring all Kenyans together.

“Our partnership is to ensure the corrupt don’t ascend to power. We cannot give this country to the dogs,” the President said.
