Uhuru’s Look-Alike Declares Presidential Bid 

Micheal Gitonga, a Nairobi resident who made headlines for his semblance with President Uhuru Kenyatta has declared interest in the top job in the August 9 polls.

Gitonga, who was speaking to the media on Friday, April 1, after maintaining a low profile for close to two years disclosed that he would vie for the presidency as an independent candidate.

He exuded confidence that he had taken time to think through his decision for the past few months insisting that he was serious about succeeding his look-alike.

“I am running for President and I will go for it as an independent candidate. I have been thinking to myself for the past month and I have finally decided to vie.

“This is not a joke. I am serious about it and I will not relent on my aspirations,” he stated.

Uhuru’s look-alike asserted that he would run on a transformative agenda noting that his desire is to improve the lives of millions of Kenyans earning below the minimum wage.

Gitonga explained that Kenyans were looking for an alternative voice other than the Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“I have looked at the two main contenders and I don’t think they have anything to offer. One is talking about hustlers and the other is talking about Ksh6,000 for families. Let us just empower our people with work.

He claimed that many politicians were deceiving Kenyans with unrealistic promises during the campaign period, alluding that he was a real hustler.

“There are so many people calling themselves hustlers right now and I am a real hustler. I am the one who is going to bring change to the country,” Gitonga expressed.

Further, he refuted claims that his decision to vie was influenced by his resemblance with the President insisting that he had never met the Head of State in person.

“My resemblance with Uhuru did not influence my decision. I know that many people in Kenya are suffering and I want to offer an alternative voice,” he stated.
