Kakamega Homeboyz came from a goal down to defeat Gor Mahia 2-1 in an FKF Premier League game staged at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday.

George Odiwuor and Stephen Opoku scored in each half to extend Homeboyz unbeaten run to nine matches as Peter Lwasa scored Gor’s consolation goal.

The win saw Homeboyz end K’Ogalo’s unbeaten in the league

Homeboyz in the process moved joint top of the FKF Premier League standings with KCB on 21 points as Gor Mahia dropped to third on 18 points.

The match was marred by an incident of hooliganism that was meted on the center referee after a fan attacked the official at the break in protest of the penalty that was awarded to the hosts for the leveling goal.

Both teams were unbeaten heading into the match after eight rounds of matches played and they were also tied at 18 points with Gor ahead with goal difference.

In the match, the visitors made a dream start when new signing Lwasa scored in the third minute to give Gor an early 1-0 lead.

The lead did not last long after Odiwuor drew Homeboyz level from the post in the 20th minute after Yema Mwana was brought down in the penalty box.

No more chances were created henceforth as the sides went to the break tied at 1-1.

Nine minutes after the restart, Homeboyz took the lead after Opoku beat Gad Mathews with a thunderous shot as the hosts led 2-1 after 54 minutes.

Homeboyz would hold on to win the match and maintain their perfect start to the campaign.
