Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has termed the senate’s verdict on her impeachment a remarkable and historic victory for her and the people of Kirinyaga.
Waiguru said the impeachment process was a choreographed plan of events aimed at tarnishing her name.
She however said she had forgiven the forces behind it. ”The report’s findings did indeed reveal areas of improvement in administration by officers and need for better checks and balances. I would like to assure Kirinyaga residents that this will not go unaddressed and that the necessary changes and improvements will be made to both human resource and systems with the aim of improving service delivery to the people of Kirinyaga,” She said.
Waiguru called upon the County Assembly to own up to their failures and play their part in ensuring that they move Kirinyaga forward.

“Rather than prioritizing funds to projects such as building of MCAs offices, they should prioritize allocation of funds for Covid-19 management and healthcare projects as proposed by the executive,” the Governor said.
At Wanguru town and Kagio, tens of Waiguru supporters took to the streets to celebrate the decision lauding the Senate for saving their Governor.
She maintained that her woes were solely because of her stand for BBI and support for the Handshake between His Excellency the President of Kenya Uhuru and Former Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga.
And to the people of Kirinyaga, she had one message. “I would like to assure you that this long drawn politically instigated process has in no way affected my commitment to serve you. On the contrary I am more resolved to ensure that you get the service you deserve.”
The Senate Select Committee acquitted her after it dismissed the motion seeking to remove her from office citing charges levelled against her were not substantiated.
“The Committee having investigated the matter in accordance with its mandate under section 33(4) of the County Governments Act and standing order 75(2) of the Senate Standing Orders reports to the Senate that it finds that the two charges against the Governor not to have been substantiated,” concludes the Committee.
According to the committee, the County Assembly did not provide evidence directly linking her to alleged corruption, abuse of office and violation of procurement regulations.
The Committee in the report also recommended that the County Assembly and Waiguru come together for a consultative process that will restore a functioning government to the people of Kirinyaga County.
