Anne Waihuru insists her move to refer to Deputy President William Ruto as the Azimio Coalition leader was a slip of the tongue.
Waiguru, the Kirinyaga governor, made the erroneous statement at a political event in Nairobi attended by Ruto.
She however realized her mistake and promptly corrected it.
Azimio is a political outfit associated with Raila Odinga, perceived to be Ruto’s strongest political opponent ahead of the August 9 polls.
Despite her clarification, Kenyans on Twitter have expressed varied reactions with a section doubting her apology, considering she was until recently one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s staunch allies.
President Kenyatta and his Deputy have since fallen out, with Waiguru now opting to back Ruto.
