Waita pledges to transform education sector in Machakos

Machakos Governor Aspirant Nzioka Waita has promised to improve education standards in the County if elected.

Waita said under his leadership, Machakos will witness key transformations in the sector such as setting up  of TVET institutions, additional Early Childhood Education classrooms (ECD) and the employment of more ECD teachers.

“We are initially aiming at a Teacher-student ration of 1 to 30. Unlike the National government the County government has a responsibility for ECD to deliver the most basic early childhood development that needs to be done,” Waita stated

The former State House Chief of Staff also vowed to implement a school feeding program for school going children across the county.

Waita spoke on Monday during a consultative forum that included Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA) among other education stakeholders in Machakos.

On her part, Machakos County Assembly Speaker, who is also Waita’s running mate Florence Mwangangi said their government will ensure adequate resource allocation to the education sector.

“Quality education will our top agenda because we want Machakos to be best in the country,” she stated

The duo are on race to succeed Goveronor Alfred Mutua who is serving his second and final term, after being elected as Machakos’ pioneer Governor in 2013.

The Machakos gubernatorial race has also attracted other aspirants including; former Transport CAS Wavinya Ndeti vying under the Wiper Party, Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Maliti and Former Senator Johnstone Muthama is also in the race on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
