Deputy President William Ruto has said the United Democratic Alliance will disqualify any aspirants who will be found to have involvement in the attack on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s chopper in Uasin Gishu County.

The move has elicited mixed reactions across the political devide with lawyer Peter Wanyama lauding the second in command for taking the courageous step in a bid to end the political violence ahead of the August polls.

“DP Ruto is a master politician. Neophyte and emotionally unintelligent politicians like Senator Cherargei and others have tried justified the attack on Raila Odinga’s helicopter but the DP has apologised to him and vowed to take action against anyone from his side who is found responsible. I am not an expert in communications but I think he has responded well to the situation” he said.

Already, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi and his Soy counterpart Caleb Kositany on Sunday afternoon presented themselves to police in Nakuru after summons over chaos witnesses in Eldoret on Friday.

The MPs and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat are linked to the incident where ODM leader Raila Odinga and his entourage were pelted with stones after attending the burial ceremony of businessman Jackson Kibor.

Wanyama has further urged all those eyeing various leadership positions during the next General Elections to campaign peacefully and embrace each other despite subscribing to different political affiliations.

Election crimes and offences in Kenya contravene the Elections Act 2011 and other provisions of the Constitution and contribute to social, political and economic upheavals in society.

Issues such as interference with the register, bribery, violence, use of public resources and technology are defined as conduct that impair credible elections and for which one can be arrested, prosecuted and if found guilty convicted.
