Bura MP Ali Wario has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to remain neutral on the Country’s succession politics.
Speaking in Bura, Tana River County over the weekend after being endorsed by his Orma community to vie for the Gubernatorial seat, Wario said that the Presidency is a symbol of national unity saying President Kenyatta should use his remaining time in office to unite the country.
“The President should not take sides in the forthcoming August 9th elections as this will further divide the Country. He should use his remaining term to unite the Country and support whoever wins in the presidential contest,” he added.
The MP said while the President remains his friend having stood with him since he joined politics, he will not hesitate to criticize him when he takes the ‘wrong’ moves.
“My message to the president is simple, you are the Head of State of this great nation, carry all of us on board. Don’t take a political side,” Wario said.
The community’s king Omar Wario Gobe called for unity in the County urging residents to rally behind Wario in the forthcoming election.
“What I want to emphasize here is that there are no losers and winners in this process. What we are looking for is the community’s unity. United we stand, divided we fall,” Gobe said.
In his acceptance speech, Wario who has served as Bura MP for 3 terms said he is transiting to the governor seat to serve the people of Tana river.
“I accept this endorsement with a full and grateful heart, with only one obligation, to provide good leadership to our community and to the people of Tana River,” Wario said.
He criticized the current County leadership for doing little to uplift the living standards of the locals promising to do all it takes to give the people the dream leadership they yearn for.
“I know the task ahead is not a walk in the park, it requires a lot of commitment and dedication, not just from me but from every single member of our community. We are faced with a myriad of challenges from healthcare, infrastructure among other challenges that boil down to poor leadership and mismanagement. This is what I am looking forward to correcting,” he said.
