“It’s a yes or no answer, sio lazima.”
Jacky Vike has released her debut single “Sio Lazima.”
Employing the comedic characteristics that made her famous, Awinja’s new song shot in appealing detail by Victor Odhiambo would be better best described as a parody except it’s an original song.
Clad in red and on the steps of Nairobi’s Macmillan library alongside fellow comedians Mammito and Wilbroda, Awinja dances to the opening notes of her song in a manner more reminiscent of choir practice, establishing the tone of the song.
The song doesn’t offer serious commentary on love but it does use its absurdity to convey the only message that matters this Valentine’s day, whether you’re taken or not, whether they want you or not, “sio lazima.”
Speaking about her new song Awinja was surprised by its reception and has a newfound respect for artistes. “I was just doing it for fun but It has made me respect artistes. The logistics are crazy. Acting is my first love so I cannot say whether I can do music full time. But this is one of the things I had vowed to tick off my bucket list.”
