Westland’s parliamentary aspirant Michael Gumo has dropped his bid in favour of incumbent MP Tim Wanyonyi.

Speaking on Sunday, 8th May Azimio la Umoja Secretary-General Junet Mohammed said that the decision was reached after negotiations with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

“We had consultations chaired by Odinga and Michael Gumo has accepted to step down in favor of Wanyonyi. The matter has now been sorted those waiting for a fallout should know today is a good Sunday belonging to the Lord,” said Junet.

“Those who wanted a big fallout just know that we have sorted all this out and we will make sure that this seat will be maintained by ODM.”

Gumo had moved to court to dispute ODM’s nomination of Wanyonyi. The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) had declared his nomination null and void issuing orders for ODM to conduct new nominations within three days.

Wanyonyi who had expressed interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat stepped down in favour of Jubilee Party’s candidate Polycarp Igathe.

Wanyonyi officially kicked off his campaign to retain his seat last week.

He is set to battle it out with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Nelson Havi in the 9th August General Elections.
