Deputy President William Ruto has defended Turkish businessman Harun Aydin from accusations of being involved in terror-related activities.
Speaking to Inooro FM, Dr Ruto said the rumours were unfounded and untrue.
The second in detailed that the Turk is a reputable entrepreneur who has invested a lot of money in Kenya.
“Don’t listen to those saying he is a terrorist. He is a businessman who has invested heavily in our country. The Turkish embassy confirmed he is genuine and has no criminal record,” he said.
Dr Ruto added that describing Aydin as a terrorist painted Kenya in bad light.
The Turk was among the six people who were to travel with the DP to Uganda on Monday, 2nd August. However, the country’s number two was stopped from flying out on grounds that he did not seek permission from his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to the Deputy President, it shocked him that rules have changed and now he has to seek authorisation prior to any foreign trip.
“I’ve been the DP for nine years and this has never happened. Why now? But we are used to humiliation now,” he said.
Asked why he was visiting Uganda, Ruto said he wanted to understand why Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s government has succeeded in protecting farmers.
“What have they done different from us? Every season they have enough food for local consumption and for selling to other countries. I want to know more about their model,” he said.
