The English Premier League (EPL) board on Tuesday, 14th December postponed Brentford’s home fixture against Manchester United.

In a statement, the board noted that it took the decision due to the exceptional circumstances of an ongoing Covid-19 outbreak within Manchester United’s squad.

First-team operations at the club’s Carrington Training Complex were closed down today to help control the outbreak and minimise the risk of further infection among players and staff.

“With the health of players and staff the priority, and in light of the recent rise in Covid-19 cases across the country, the Premier League has reintroduced Emergency Measures,” said the board.

These include protocols such as more frequent testing, wearing face coverings while indoors, observing social distancing and limiting treatment time.

Premier League on Monday, 13th December the Premier League confirmed that 42 players and officials tested positive to Covid-19 which has now seen some games postponed.

On Sunday, 12th December the match between Brighton and Tottenham was also postponed after several players and staff tested positive for Covid-19 at the North London club.

The UK government had announced last week that from Wednesday, 15th December fans will need to show proof of double vaccination or a negative test to attend sporting events with crowds of more than 10,000 people in England.
