Kirinyaga Governor has claimed that the State is bullying her through intimidation and threats.
According to the county boss, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is being used to browbeat her every she makes a political statement that does not resonate with certain quarters in government.
Waiguru said the first time she was warned is when she expressed her dissatisfaction with the team that had been selected to promote the Building Bridges Initiative in the Mt Kenya region.
“Last time I said. ..on BBI let me keep quiet a bit. Immediately, EACC raided my office,” she said in a statement.
The governor alleges that the anti-graft agency is on her case again after indicating that her support for ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid is not automatic.
“Recently I said I am introspecting on the way forward… and I again immediately I get EACC summons complete with all the subtle threatening inflexibilities,” she said.
For three years, Waiguru had consistently said the former Prime Minister was the best bet for the Mt Kenya region until recently when she developed cold feet.
While she did not mention who is behind her woes, her statement appeared to target Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.
Since her election in 2017, the governor has been accusing the powerful government official of being a nuisance to her administration
.
She has in a number of times called out Kibicho, who also hails from Kirinyaga, for allegedly taking credit for county projects.
Their relationship moved from bad to worse last year when Kibicho increased his forays in the county, with some residents convinced he was angling for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial post.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has unsuccessfully tried to broker a deal between the two leaders.
