Why President Uhuru is using Raila Odinga to reclaim Mt Kenya

President Uhuru Kenyatta is slowly regaining lost ground in his Mt Kenya backyard. However, the president is doing this using a completely different strategy which has so far proven to be working. After his handshake with Raila Odinga, Uhuru begun facing unprecedented rebellion from Mt Kenya MPs who accused him of betraying William Ruto.

”When Catherine Waruguru, the Laikipia Woman Representative, walked into Raila’s Capitol Hill office on Tuesday, it seams she was opening the door for other members of Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga brigade in Central.Yesterday, Sarah Korere, the Laikipia North MP, also a Ruto supporter, walked into into Capitol Hill alongside Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina to pledge allegiance to the Raila-Uhuru power axis,” reads a report on The Standard on Thursday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta choice of Raila Odinga to help him reclaim Mt Kenya was strategic, since he could not directly go to the MPs or allow them to State House.

The ODM leader has been the object of Tanga Tanga attacks, to have the same MPs rushing to a person they have been disparaging and insulting at political rallies is not only a huge plus for Raila but also Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We will get all these fellows behind the president in a matter of days. It is no longer a question of if but when. Some of them are beginning to confess how they were misled but we have no problem allowing them back into the fold,” Muranga Senator and new Jubilee Majority Whip Irungu Kangata says.
