As political temperatures between William Ruto and the Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i continue to built up and deepen over the Kisii presidential votes, Kisii deputy governor Joash Maang’i who is leading light in Ruto’s brigade team in the Gusii region has decided to go under.

Recently at a political function in the region, those present called on Matiang’i to run for the presidency 2022 but the CS did not respond.

At one time, the deputy governor claimed that his life was now in danger.

Maingi

Maangi told Weekly Citizen that people who are opposed to his political stand of supporting the deputy president for the top seat come 2022 want to have him assassinated before the next general elections.

He claimed that a plot has been hatched to have him and other Ruto’s supporters eliminated just because they rejected certain leaders who are being imposed on them and his grant move of fighting corruption deals in Kisii county government. The deputy governor is opposed to the camp pushing for Matiang’i presidential bid 2022 and being crowned the community leader.

Weekly Citizen has information that plans are at an advantaged stage to install the CS as the community spokesman before the next general elections.

A visibly shaken Maangi told this writer that for the last one month, he has been living under fear and having sleepless nights after suspicious vehicles and characters started trailing him wherever he goes with the intention of having him being eliminated ahead of the next general elections.

Maangi cited an incident while travelling from Nairobi to Kisii, a white pickup with GK registration numbers trailed him for a very long distance till his driver dodged it by taking a different direction near Sotik town.

Then while travelling back to Nairobi, somebody posted in social media that he was being trailed and will be arrested before reaching Narok town.

At another incident, the deputy governor said that an officer working with the county government in Kisii county told one of his friends that one of the 2022 gubernatorial aspirant has schemed to have him harmed and the blame shifted to the Kisi governor James Ongwae.

Maang’i confirmed to this writer that he has already reported the matter to the police and hoped that the police officers could investigate the matter with speed and bring to book those who want to have him killed.

To worsen the situation, prior to the BBI meeting at Gusii stadium, a contingent of about 12 armed policemen raided his residence in Kisii town ready with a truck to tow away two county government vehicles allocated to him but his domestic staff offered to give them the keys and took away the two vehicles.

Nyamoko

“Owing to the above incidents, I have reasons to believe that my life is truly in danger because I support Ruto and condemn corruption which is the order of the day in Kisii county government,” he told this writer.

He appealed to all Kenyans of all walks of lives to pray for him because his life is in danger.

Maangi who talked to Weekly Citizen said that the police officers who raided his residence were in the company of the county enforcement officers and were acting directives from two senior political leaders from the community.

He said that the officers had a breakdown which they intended to use in towing the vehicles if they were not given the vehicles but fortunately his workers cooperated and complied.

Maangi also dismissed those asking him to resign from the Kisii county government if it was riddled with corruption saying he can not do so as he has chosen to fight the corruption war from within.

“There is a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta told his senior officers in his government to their face over rampant corruption and mismanagement which had riddled his government. Did he resign?” he posed.

He said he cannot accept to be cowed and intimidated by the governor and the security agents because of his political stand.

Investigation carried out by this writer has established that the county governments of Nyamira and Kisii have schemed to silence those who are opposed to the leadership of Interior cabinet secretary.

The same source which supports Matiang’i told Weekly Citizen that the top leadership of the two counties with the support of the national government officers were planning to use hired goons and the provincial administration in instilling fear against the critics of Matiang’i in a peaceful way without hurting or harming them.

The same source further indicated that those opposed to Matiang’i in favour of Ruto could have their political meetings disrupted as a sign that the Ruto politics was not welcome in Gusii land.

However, the Ruto team led by the North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko told Weekly Citizen that they were aware that Matiang’i has given instructions to the police and the provincial administration to frustrate their efforts of campaigning for Ruto but told him that they could not be scared by such moves.

Other MPs behind Ruto are Vincent Kemosi, Ezekiel Machongu, Innocent Ombiri, Alfah Miruka,Oroo Oyioka, Zadoc Ogutu and Sivanus Osoro.

Nyamoko challenged Matiang’i to come out and declare his candidature for the seat of presidency instead of using his spanner boys to do so.
