Wilson Sossion’s next move in Politics

ODM nominated MP Wilson Sossion is planning to run for Bomet senatorial race on Chama Cha Mashinani associated with former governor Isaac Ruto.

Sossion has been having it rough after KNUT ousted him and he also lost his favours within the Raila Odinga led ODM party that nominated him to the Parliament.

There were reports that, almost partyless Sossion was eyeing United Democratic Alliance ticket but has discovered aspirants seeking the party ticket have for a long time stood with William Ruto through thick and thin.

In June, Wilson Sossion resigned as the secretary-general of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) saying he was frustrated by the government’s failure to support his leadership. His resignation came just a day before the union’s national elections.

Sossion’s decision to run on CCM is based on grounds Isaac will support DP Ruto for president. The CCM leader reunited with the DP as part of the scheme for the second in command to consolidate his Rift Valley power base.

Prior to the last elections, the two were engaged in a supremacy war to control the region’s vote bloc. Rutto then was in Nasa with ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi of ANC and Ford Kenya’s Mosses Wetangula.

During a public rally attended by DP Ruto at Chesoen, Bomet the former governor said: “When my brother went to the mountain, I decided to go to the lake. So when I tried to pull my candidate who was stuck in the swamp it became difficult because the force that came from the hill was immense and used gravity that it swept him and that is why I ditched him.”

Isaac was a casualty in 2017 polls losing his seat to Joyce Laboso. Hillary Barchok was her running mate. Two years later, Laboso succumbed to cancer and Barchok took over.

Sossion’s troubles with Raila started after the ODM boss deserted him during Knut polls and refused to fund his campaigns.

According to Weekly Citizen, Uhuru had warned Raila to stop dealing with Sossion who was out to sabotage his government while at the helm of Knut. It is even whispered, although nominated on ODM, Sossion was sympathetic to Ruto camp at national politics.

Bomet County is home to many of Rift Valley’s firebrand political figures. They include former cabinet minister the late Kipkalya Kones, former MP Nick Salat and the late Laboso. Salat is eyeing senatorship seat on Kanu.
