Baringo Woman Rep Gladwell Tungo is bereaved after her husband, Isaac Cherogony, died of suspected coronavirus on Saturday evening.

On Sunday, the family confirmed that Cherongony suddenly developed breathing problems at home and was rushed to a hospital in Eldoret.

Efforts by doctors to resuscitate him proved futile. The first-term legislator confirmed to the press that her husband succumbed to the respiratory illness at a hospital in Eldoret.

Baringo Assembly Clerk Richard Koech sent a message of
condolence as tributes poured in.

“It is a diffi cult time for the family of our Woman
Representative and the people of Baringo, however, we need to open our eyes and
realize that this disease is real,” said Koech.

He urged Kenyans to strictly adhere with the measures and
protocols that the government has put in place to curb the spread of the deadly
respiratory disease.

“Indeed we have not been keen on observing the protocols
given… Everyone should take it as a personal responsibility to observe the
guidelines given by the ministry of health to reduce spread of the deadly
virus,” he said.

A cloud of fear and uncertainty has enveloped the region
with residents fearing for the worst after sudden rise in Coronavirus cases
particularly in Nakuru and Uasin Gishu counties where it was initially
attributed to truck drivers.

Last week, the government was forced to close down abruptly
an ongoing training of teachers by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum
Development (KICD) at Kabarak University in the outskirts of Nakuru after two
Coronavirus cases were detected.

There more than 200 teachers, KICD senior offi cials and
consultants from various parts of the country at the institution at the time.

The training started in February.

Cheruiyot, who is a member of Kanu, attended a meeting
chaired by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi at the late President Daniel arap Moi’s
residence within the expansive Kabarak Community during the period.
