Police in Kikuyu, Kiambu County have arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing his sister’s 2-year-old son to death on Thursday afternoon (June 11).
The teenager, who
hails from Ndeiya Ward in Kikuyu Constituency, had visited his sister in Kikuyu
Town, and had been left to take care of the child, when the incident happened.
His elder sibling, who is in her early 30s, had gone to work, police said.
It is alleged that
the suspect stabbed the little boy four times in the chest.
The deceased’s mother,
who does menial work for a living, said she returned home in the evening, and
found her child covered as “he slept” on his bed.
After waiting for
nearly two hours for her son to wake up, she grew anxious and went over to his
bed, where she discovered the boy had four stab wounds in the chest, and was already
dead.
Upon asking her teenage brother, what had happened, the boy fled the scene, an act which the elder sibling interpreted as an admission of guilt.
On Friday morning
(June 12), police found the suspect stranded on Kikuyu Town streets. They
arrested and took him to Kikuyu Police Station, where he is being held in
custody.
Kikuyu OCPD Kutumi
Mutarani confirmed the incident to K24
Digital, saying the minor will be arraigned once investigations into the
incident are concluded.
“We are yet to
establish why the suspect fatally stabbed his nephew,” said Mutarani.
The suspect’s
grandmother told K24 Digital that the
teenager’s actions shocked her, given her grandchild “always exhibited characteristics
of a level-headed and peace-loving person”.
The body of the 2-year-old boy, who was his mother’s first-and-only child, was taken to Kikuyu Mission Hospital morgue.
