– Jonathan Woodgate’s last match in charge of Middlesbrough against Swansea finished 3-0

– The result left Boro sitting 21st on the Championship standings and are out of the relegation zone only on goal difference

– Woodgate’s position will now be taken by Warnock who now has eight matches to keep Boro up

Championship side Middlesbrough have confirmed the sacking of Jonathan Woodgate as manager.

Woodgate was shown the exit door following a string of poor results that have seen the Riverside club battling for survival.

In a statement by Middlesbrough on Tuesday, June 23, the club announced veteran tactician Neil Warnock will take over the reigns.

“MFC can confirm that head coach Jonathan Woodgate has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” the club said.

“Jonathan was relieved of his role on Tuesday morning and will be replaced by the experienced Neil Warnock,” the statement added.

Woodgate’s firing came just three days after Boro were thrashed 3-0 at home against Swansea City on their return to action.

The result left the side sitting 21st on the Championship standings level and are out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.

Woodgate, a former Boro and England defender took over as manager at the club last summer, replacing Tony Pulis.

His successor Warnock’s first assignment will be a huge away clash against fellow relegation battlers Stoke City on Saturday, June 27.
