It seems the drama revolving around Eric Omondi is far from over. This is after he clashed with Kenyan musicians over a sentiment he made in the week.

In an interview with Jalang’o, Eric Omondi claimed that Kenya’ music industry is on a downward trajectory hence urging local musicians to step up their game.

Omondi challenged Kenyan musicians to step up their game and start producing quality songs if they want to compete with their colleagues in Nigeria and Tanzania.

“We are experiencing dark edges of Kenyan music, Tanzanian na Nigeria watatupiga. Nigerian musicians are in Kenya every weekend and Kenyan musicians have become curtain raisers, wanalipwa 30K, wakienda backstage wanaskumwa. It is a disgrace, the industry is a disgrace,” he said.

His sentiment did not, however, sit well with Kenya’s legendary musician Jua Cali who criticized Eric Omondi for bashing Kenyan artists.

Jua Cali said that it was wrong for Omondi to bash fellow musicians noting that the comedian should stick to comedy and leave musicians alone.

He said that if he was to challenge Omondi in his field of comedy, people could realize that Omondin is just a noisemaker.

“Comedian anabash wasanii. Wajua mimi ni fun wa standup comedy sana lakini kama ni story ya comedy, makomedian wetu kama hauwezi stand kwa stage for one and half hours uchekeshe wasee, we si comedian mtu wangu. Kama hauwezifanya specials zako, we si comedian. Hizi comedy tunaona ni drama,” Jua Cali said.

“Saa hii tuko kwa global village, wasanii wa nje wanawezakuja hapa kuperform lakini haimanishi industry yetu iko mbaya Wasanii wanafanya job fity, wako sawa wanapiga mashow. So macomedian stay kwa lane yenu.”

Jua Cali noted that Kenyan music has come far and should be given the respect it deserves.
