Zambia’s Ex-President Rupiah Banda is Dead

Former President of Zambia, Rupiah Bwezani Banda is dead.

His son, Andrew Banda confirmed the death of his father.

The 85-year-old died on Friday, 11th after a battle with colon cancer. Banda was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and has since been receiving medical treatment.

“He died around 1900 hours today,” Andrew, Banda’s second eldest child told Reuters.

Banda who served as Zambia’s fourth president was in power from 2008 to 2011. He took over the presidential reins in mid-2008 in an acting capacity when President Levy Mwanawasa suffered a stroke.
