200 High School Teachers receive special computer training skills

Over 200 High School teachers from Taita Taveta County have acquired special computer training skills in a bid to improve education standards in the County.

The teachers selected from 20 schools are now expected to efficiently teach computer lessons to their students without struggle.

Stephen Chacha a Mathematics teacher at Timbila Boys said the integration of ICT in teaching and learning has improved interest among students and is expected to improve their performance.

Chacha said he has has also benefited immensely as a teacher saying researching and preparing for lessons has become easier.

Mildred Owinyo from Voi girls urged the Government to introduce computer classes in all Teachers Training colleges and Universities saying it should be mandatory for teachers to have computer skills.

Jackline Mwambere from Ngami High School congratulated Africa Digital Schools Initiative saying it has greatly improved education by making her Biology class the best at Sub-County level after the introduction of ICT teaching and learning system.

Jackline challenged the Government through Ministry of Education to train all teachers in Secondary schools together as well as equip schools with computers and Projectors to improve education standards.

According to program Coordinator Charles Keptia the initiative began in 2016 where 200 teachers teaching Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Science were recruited from 20 schools with an aim to improve education in that County.

Mr. Keptai said they have supported the teachers and schools with Laptops, Computers and Projectors which they are using in teaching.
