Kenya´s positivity rate hits 37.6pc as 1,596 test positive for Covid

Kenya has recorded a positivity rate of 37.6% with 1,596 people testing positive for Covid-19 from a  sample size of 4,242 tested in the last 24 hours.

According to a statement by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, out of the new cases 1,454 are Kenyans while 142 are foreigners.

879 are females and 717 are males with the youngest  being an eight-month-old child while the oldest is 91 years.

The total  confirmed positive cases are now 284,150 and cumulative tests  so far conducted are 2,994,912.

The CS reminded all restaurants and public places not to admit persons who have not been vaccinated.

´´For you to go out to public places, please get vaccinated. All Public and Private  Vaccination Centers remain open until late during this festive period.´´ Said CS Kagwe.

Adding that ´´Also ensure that your personal data is captured correctly  when you go for vaccination. We are witnessing a number of cases where the information given was not accurate, bringing about  issues once the vaccination certificate has been printed.´´

Ministry of Health says, 330 patients have recovered from the disease, 196 are from various health facilities countrywide while 134 are from the  Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Total recoveries now  stand at 250,326 of whom 201,604 are from the Home-Based  Care and Isolation program, while 48,722 are from various health  facilities countrywide.

Sadly, three patients have succumbed to Covid-19 all of them  being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in  the month of December 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities  to 5,364.

A total of 708 patients are currently admitted in various health  facilities countrywide, while 19,315 are under the Home-Based  Isolation and Care program. 31 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 17 of them on ventilatory support while 14 are Another 160 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 151 of  them are in the general wards with nine patients in the High  Dependency Unit (HDU).

The CS has reminded Kenyans to be vigilant urging them not to engage in mass parties but if they have to, do it outdoors and observe the Ministry of Health Covid-19 guidelines and protocols.

Vaccination campaign

As of December 26th 2021, a total of 9,579,456 vaccines had so far been administered across the country.

Of these, 5,639,933 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were  3,939,523.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.7%. Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.5%.

Nairobi County is in the lead with 32.8% of the population fully vaccinated followed by Nyeri  30.0%, Laikipia 23.5%, Kiambu 21.6%, Taita Taveta 17.6%, Murang’a 17.2%, Uasin Gishu at 16.8%, Kakamega 16.4%, Machakos 16.2%, Kirinyaga 16.2%, Nyandarua 15.7%, Nakuru  15.2% on  supplemental oxygen.
