‘A woman will defend herself with anything!’ Vigilance Shighi accused of killing JKIA engineer speaks

A video has emerged of a woman who is suspected to have stabbed her boyfriend to death.

In the video, Vigilance Shighi narrates how a scuffle that happened on  Saturday night, with her live in boyfriend, Edward Okello, lead to his death.

“I don’t know what happened but ni ile kukorofishana kukorofishana…. mimi mwenyewe nimemwambia what is not happening?”

The distraught Vigilance went on to explain what happened to a group of men who looked like police officers on the scene of the crime.

She said, “He started beating me. And hitting me. A woman will take anything to defend herself. I took a cup and threw it at him.”

Asked who wielded the knife first.

She said,

“I don’t know what happened. Kisu ilikua tuu hapo. All I know is that we were fighting.”

According to the police report at Buruburu Police Station,

“Edward Okello aged 33 years working as an airplane engineer at JKIA had been stabbed on the chest by his girlfriend, Taita female adult namely Vigilance Shighi aged 29yrs.”

He was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where he was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment.

The report continued,

“Scene visited by stapol Buruburu, duty officer, DCI personnel, scene documented by CSI officer. The suspect of the murder who is the girlfriend namely Vigilance Shighi was identified by the neighbours and arrested immediately.”

The team proceeded to the residence at Umoja 2, zone 8 plot no.5961 ground floor and found a pool of blood on the sitting room and a kitchen knife was recovered.”

The report noted,

“Motive of the incident was due to disagreement between themselves. The suspect placed in custody. Body moved to Mama Lucy Kibaki hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.”
