Embattled Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has been dealt a huge blow after the High Court, sitting in Nairobi dismissed a petition challenging her ouster. In a ruling on Thursday, Justice Weldon Korir said Kirinyaga MCAs did not violate any laws when impeaching the Governor. Also, the case was dismissed with cost.
Today’s ruling comes just a day after country’s Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission kicked started probing corruption allegations leveled against the Kirinyaga Governor. However, some believe the move by Kirinyaga County Assembly Members (MCAs) to impeach the Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru could be short-lived as the impeachment battle proceeds to the Senate where the lawmaker is likely to be saved.
Governor Waiguru has been strongky defended by women leadrs both in government and those in politics. CS Kobia in a statement expressed her displeasure in the county assembly members who championed Waiguru’s ouster claiming that they did not value strong women leadership.
“It is unfortunate that Waiguru’s term is being cut short by an impeachment. This is an indicator that some of us do not value strong women leadership, ” Kobia expressed her disappointment.
“We are disappointed that the governor is being impeached during the fight against COVID-19 which is negatively impacting on social-economic development of the county,” she added. The CS further highlighted that she supported the Common Women Agenda (COWA), adding that justice needed to be served.
