CCTV footage showing an unidentified man stealing from a business premises in Machakos County has surfaced online and gone viral.
The time-stamp on the security feed indicated that the footage was recorded in a small business premises within Machakos town.
The footage showed a man dressed in black and red cap stealthily approaching business stalls in a frantic manner. He appeared to be signaling someone on the other end before picking a phone call.
As he surveyed the scene to ensure the coast was clear, he proceeded to one of the doors, but suddenly turned back and headed to one of the bunks.
Oblivious of the CCTV camera capturing his every move, the man expertly picked the lock and managed to open the bunk ajar. He proceeded to kneel down and sneaked inside.
His brazen execution of the mission has left many Kenyans online shocked as to the motive behind the daylight robbery. The suspect is still at large.
The incident mirrors two women who were recently caught stealing from a local supermarket in Uasin Gishu County.
In what seemed to be a coordinated approach, they were seen taking cooking oil and rice, and tried to throw security off their trail by browsing various items in the supermarket.
There has been a number of crime cases on the rise despite in 2020 (from 13,954 in 2019 to 8,709 – a drop in 37.6 per cent), according to survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
