Covid-19 Caseload Rises to 282,554 as 1,196 Test Positive

The Ministry of Health has announced 1,196 new Covid-19 cases from 3,415 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s caseload to 282,554.

This has increased to 2,990,670 the cumulative number of samples tested in the country so far. The country’s positivity rate stands at 35 per cent.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 26th December, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that from the new cases, 1,037 are Kenyans while 159 are foreigners with 638 being females while 558 are males. The youngest is a one-year-old child while the oldest is 93.

Kagwe said 59 patients have recovered, 51 are from various health facilities and eight are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. The total number of recoveries now stands at 249,996.

Today two more patients have succumbed to the disease all of them being late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits in the month of December 2021. This pushes the cumulative fatalities to 5,361.

There are 704 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 18,696 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

Some  18 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 12 of them on ventilatory support while six are on supplemental oxygen.

Another 139 patients are on supplemental oxygen and 133 of them are in the general wards. Six patients are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination: As of 25th December 2021, a total of 9,555,567 vaccines had so far been administered across the country. Of these, 5,628,082 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 3,927,485.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 55.8 per cent.  The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 14.4 per cent.
