Former University of Nairobi student leader Chrispus Fwamba has declared interest in the Nairobi governorship.
In 2013, Fwamba commonly known as Fwamba NC Fwamba was the running mate for the late Mutinda Khavemba on a Wiper ticket. The seat was won by Dr Evans Kidero on an ODM ticket, who is currently seeking to succeed Cyprian Awiti as Homa Bay governor. Kidero lost to Mike Sonko in 2017.
Yesterday, Fwamba said he will vie for the seat on Jubilee Party. “I have done politics all my time in the city and at the UoN where I studied and I believe that I understand well issues affecting Nairobians and am ready to solve them,” he said.
Aspirants in the Nairobi governor race include the incumbent Ann Kananu, businesswoman Agnes Kagure, Senator Johnson Sakaja, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and president of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Richard Ngatia.
Fwamba was an advisor to Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa when he was in the Devolution ministry where he handled the Kenya Devolution Support Programme.
He said he was one of the key strategists of the Jubilee Party during the 2017 elections. “I was among the strategists for President Uhuru Kenyatta under the Mbele Iko Sawa lobby where we traversed the country campaigning for him,” he said.
In 2004, after the election of Mathare MP George Wanjohi was nullified by the Court of Appeal, Fwamba unsuccessfully vied for the seat in the by-election.
