Grand Wedding That Sparked Ruto-Mudavadi Bromance

Deputy President William Ruto caught many Kenyans unawares after he made his way into the ANC National Delegates Convention (NDC) on Sunday, January 23.

The meeting was organised to endorse Musalia Mudavadi as the ANC presidential flag bearer.

Before today, Mudavadi has been affirming his commitment to the One Kenya Alliance (OKA), insisting that there were no secret talks between him and the DP.

However, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja spilled the beans, revealing that the bromance between Mudavadi and Ruto started more than six months ago.

Speaking at the ANC convention, the lawmaker hinted that the two started chatting after the lavish wedding of the DP’s firstborn in May 2021.

Mudavadi was the only senior politician who attended that ceremony held at the DP’s official residence in Karen, Nairobi.

Sakaja claimed that the second in command had invited the likes of ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, but only the ANC chief showed up.

The senator said he felt that the other leaders were not good, as he did not understand why they would miss a wedding of a young lady who had not wronged them in any way.

Sakaja and his Kakamega colleague Cleophas are believed to be the architect of the looming political partnership between the DP and the former Vice-President, who served only three months.

There are reported to have been meeting the leadership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) “at night” and later briefing their party leader.

The Mudavadi-Ruto dalliance has, however, caused a storm in OKA, with two co-principals, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kanu’s Gideon Moi announcing that their cooperation with Mudavadi has come to an end.

“We as OKA today have walked out of Mudavadi’s ‘earthquake’ meeting. Unfortunately, we have to part ways since some of his friends are not our friends and we are unsafe with them. We are therefore moving to higher grounds where Kenyans are safer,” Moi said.
