INSIDE details of DP Ruto’s swarm of stinging political extremists paid to discredit Uhuru’s legacy projects

William Ruto has assembled swarm of stinging political activists to discredit Uhuru’s legacy projects

Deputy President William Ruto has silently been suffering political strokes that President Uhuru Kenyatta has been unleashing on his allies recently. The second in command has not returned even a single feeble punch and has often appeared helpless, defeated and overwhelmed by the towering mighty of the command in chief.

A section of political analysts have been advising him to bold out and fight the government from outside, but the DP has chosen to hang on. Believed to be an astute politician and known for his confrontational approach whenever he is pressed to the wall, Ruto appears to have silently selected a team of stinging political activists to do the job on his behalf as he waits for the right time to quit.

He began assembling team a long time ago and has steadily been moulding it into a brave army of political warriors. The first soldier to join the stinging squad was Nyali MP Mohamed Ali who before his entry into politics was a renowned brave investigative journalist who exposed the rot in government and unravelled a series of many scary dubious deals in the country.

Then came the former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, a fiery lawmaker who made headlines for confronting corrupt ministers and pushing for their ouster while he was the chair of public accounts committee in the National Assembly. The fearless politician known for shooting from the heap even pushed for the removal of Ruto as Agriculture minister when the maize scandal rocked his docket. It did not take long before the DP courted former senators Johnstone Muthama (Machakos) and Hassan Omar (Mombasa).

The two politicians are masters of political activism and were at the helm of National Super Alliance (NASA)’s confrontational responses and attacks during the 2017 epic campaigns. Muthama openly called out President Uhuru Kenyatta and linked his family to a myriad of scandals in the country. The vocal senator did not spare Ruto either. Omar is a known professional activist who was expelled from campus and vanished into exile courtesy of his activism.

Still on Ruto’s side is Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, a fierce critic of the president and a man known for his loose tongue. Kuria has the guts to say whatever he thinks in a way he deems appropriate to him.

Then there is Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, the youthful MP is more lethal, thunderous and highly inflammable. Sudi often addresses the presser alone or in the company of his Bahati counterpart Kimani Ngunjiri, a man who has been on a warpath with Uhuru since 2018.

Other members of the stinging squad include Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro. Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has been leading the team in tearing into the president’s agenda and erecting roadblocks on anything that tramples on Ruto’s 2022 ambitions. Former State House director of digital communications Dennis Itumbi has been leading the online team in ridiculing Uhuru and his government.

On Thursday, Muthama, Omar, Khalwale, Ali, Barasa and vocal Kilifi MP Aisha Jumwa held a joint presser for the first time and castigated the president for presiding over corruption, with his family and cronies being major beneficiaries.

They mounted pressure on Uhuru to publicly name individuals who were benefiting from the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) or they would go to court to demand the list of beneficiaries. Ali who is pushing for the impeachment of Transport CS James Macharia alleged First Lady Margaret Kenyatta was part of the beneficiaries of the SGR deal.

They vowed to press for justice and ensure the truth prevails in the mega infrastructural deal which was recently declared illegal by the court. With this squad on board and intact, it was necessary for the DP to open a command centre, the Jubilee Asili Centre, which also brought to the fore an informal political outfit in the name of Jubilee Asilli.

Jubilee Asili Centre was an idea whose time had come because Ruto’s stinging team was full and needed a venue to coordinate its activities. Although he has lost some key allies who decided to back off after Uhuru unleashed whips on disloyal members, the second in command still has a fiery team that can terrorize anyone with facts and propaganda served in equal measure.
