Jussie was convinced of filing a false police report.
Last week, Hollywood actor Jussie Smollet was sentenced to five months in prison and pay some hefty fines. This is after he was found guilty of lying to the police claiming he had been the victim of a hate crime. Following the sentencing, his lawyers launched an appeal.
Smollett has always maintained the hoax incident, which took place in Chicago in 2019, was real. In fact, following the verdict, the Empire actor said “If I did this, then it means that I stuck my fist in the fears of black Americans in this country for over 400 years and the fears of the LGBT community. I did not do this.” Just a few days later, Jussie has signed a $150,000 (KES 171, 525,000) recognizance bond prior to his release and and left the Cook County jail surrounded by security.
His defence team argued his imprisonment, was excessive and that his health and safety were in danger while he remained in prison. They also questioned why he had been imprisoned after a previous prosecutor dropped the charges against him in 2019. They claimed that his health and safety were at risk was incorrect as he had been in protective custody while in prison.
