The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) Board of Directors has appointed John Kabuchi to be the acting Chief Executive Officer.
He takes over from Edward Njoroge, the Operations Director, who had been acting on the post since last year when the CEO Jonah Manjari was suspended over the Covid-19 millionaires scandal.
In an internal memo to all Kemsa staff, the director of human resources and administration Ebla Mohamed said the decision was arrived at during a meeting held on 20th December.
“Kabuchi takes over from Edward Njoroge whose acting ceases with immediate effect as he resumes his previous role as director, operations,” the memo reads in part.
Until his appointment, Kabuchi was the Procurement Manager for donor-funded Programmes at the authority. He is also the chairman of the Covid-19 vaccines procurement and logistics committee.
He will be acting until the agency brings a substantive CEO.
The agency is currently undergoing major reforms which have been under sharp focus since the Covid-19 Millionaires expose.
Following the expose, several senior officials including the CEO and others in the Procurement and Finance departments were suspended to facilitate investigation into the matter.
In November the Kemsa Board also directed all staff to work from home as part of the organisational reforms.
“The Board of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority confirms that organisational reform efforts have been stepped up to position the Authority as an effective player in the local healthcare system,” said Kemsa Board Chairperson Mary Chao Mwadime.
Mwadime stated that Kemsa is a strategic State Corporation mandated to undertake roles and responsibilities to ensure supply chain excellence for Health Products and Technologies (HPTs).
