A Kenyan man who is a primary school dropout has been presented at a Nairobi court for allegedly conning a Qatari billionaire of Ksh127 million.
Abdurahman Imraan Juma is reported to have dumped the tycoon in believing that he was a contractor and had the capacity to help him construct a school in the Middle East nation.
Court papers indicate that he would hold meetings with the billionaire and assure him that everything was in place.
The Kajiado-born man would also demand consultancy fees.
“Defendant would meet the victim and falsely promise to provide the loan to the victim in exchange for a consultancy fee paid by wire transfer to a bank account in Kenya.”
The accused would then cook papers and send them to the tycoon to prove that there was good progress in their deal.
Since the billionaire would send the money to bank accounts in Kenya and Los Angeles, he was the suspect to be extradited in the United States.
The 28-year-old was arrested in December last year and has been in police custody.
Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni allowed detectives to hold Juma until early next month when the Magistrate Court will decide whether he will be set free on bond.
