Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are piecing together information on the deaths of a young couple from Umoja Estate, Nairobi County.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the couple got home at around 9pm on Sunday, November 8, accompanied by two men, only to be found dead the following day.

Neighbours who spoke to detectives stated that they heard screams from Eric Maina and his girlfriend Leilah Truphena’s house at a certain time in the night.

However, the screams died down in no time and neighbours did not see the need to be alarmed.

In the morning, however, the couple did not play music as was their routine and by evening, a foul smell was coming from their house.

It is not clear whether the two men who accompanied the couple to the house had anything to do with the deaths of the 18-year-olds.

Sleuths are now looking to establish whether the couple was murdered due to a business deal gone wrong or it was a case of robbery.

The couple is said to have started a car wash in Umoja that was doing quite well and police suspect that some of their competitors were not happy with the fast-rising business.

Some of the household items including a 43″ TV set, two laptops, a music system and the victims’ mobile phones, were missing from the house.

Bodies of the duo had multiple stab wounds and their hands had been fastened from behind.

Detectives reported there were signs of a struggle in the living room due to the bloody spatters all over the floor.
