– Makau Mutua said DP Ruto’s silence as his allies were being shaken from right, left and centre was puzzling
– The lawyer questioned why the second in command had not dared put up a fight for his lieutenants who were being dewhipped largely due to their loyalty to him
– The law professor also said the removal of Duale also paved the way for Ruto’s impeachment
– The Garissa Township MP was removed as National Assembly majority leader and replaced with Kipipiri MP Amos Munya
– Duale’s ejection was one among a host of purges in the ruling party that has been targeting Ruto’s allies
Lawyer Makau Mutua has once again hit out at Deputy President William Ruto for remaining silent as President Uhuru Kenyattadethroned his allies from key positions in Parliament.
Mutua questioned why the second in command failed to put up a fight for his loyal lieutenants who fell casualties in the unforgiving Jubilee purge.
Taking to his Twitter, the America-based law professor said Ruto was cowering in fear and had failed to do enough to protect his allies and “surrogates” who faced ejection due to their loyalty to him.
“Why won’t DP William Ruto lift a finger or put up a fight to protect his allies and surrogates. They are guillotined right and left in broad daylight in his physical presence yet he cowers in fear,” he said.
His sentiment came hours after Ruto’s key ally in the National Assembly Aden Duale was unceremoniously dethroned from the seat of majority leader and Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya appointed to replace him.
Mutua also said Ruto’s impeachment was now brewing since his right-hand man had been decapitated.
“It’s very likely DP William Ruto could be impeached soon now that Aden Duale has been decapitated,” wrote the professor

Duale was, until his sacking, Ruto’s last man standing after many of his allies were removed from key leadership and committee positions.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika were among the first casualties of the purge which saw them lose majority leader and majority whip positions respectively.

In the National Assembly, Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali was ousted as majority whip alongside his deputy Cecily Mbarire who was also stripped of her roles.
Interestingly, the DP remained mum as his loyal allies were dethroned and this also caused a major fallout in his camp with Rashid Echesa questioning why he had remained silent.

“I am sure if Ruto had pleaded with the president, Washiali would have survived the axe. There has been talk about Atwoli and Oparanya pushing for the changes, but I never saw them at State House. The person I saw was the deputy president and unfortunately, he didn’t raise a finger on the fate of Washiali,” Echesa said on Wednesday, June 3, as quoted by Daily Nation.
A section of observers opined Ruto’s silence was part of his gameplan.
