Police launch investigations into killing of Pamoja FM journalist

Police have launched investigations into the killing of a radio journalist working with Pamoja FM in Kibra who was killed Monday morning under unclear circumstances.

Mohamed Hassan Marijan met his untimely demise near Kibera Law Court at dawn while coming from work after hosting a special Ramadhan show.

Kibra sub-county deputy commissioner Gideon Ombogi said police have been deployed to probe the mater.

The incident infuriated members of the public who launched a manhunt for the killers.

One person who was allegedly linked to the murder was lynched. Police in Kibra have been accused of laxity during the dusk to dawn curfew.

The bodies of the two have been taken to the City morgue awaiting an autopsy.

Elsewhere, police in Kirinyaga County are investigating an incident in which a 4-month-old baby girl died under mysterious circumstances in Gitoo-ini village.

The baby’s mother is alleged to have been drinking beer at her male neighbor’s house when the incident happened.

Confirming the incident, Mwea-West sub-county police commander Aden Alio said the matter was reported to the Kangai police post by Thomas Chomba, the deceased’s uncle.

Speaking after the incident, the 35-year-old Sarah Waruguru who is the mother of the deceased said she had been invited for a beer by her neighbor.

Waruguru who has since recorded a statement over the matter said they had been drinking since 8am on Saturday and only paused when they had downed all the beers.

When she came back with the beers, she found her daughter foaming at the mouth and quickly informed her drinking buddies.

Mwea-west police boss says police will proceed with their investigations after a post-mortem scheduled for Tuesday.
