Retired President Mwai Kibaki is dead. He was 90.

His passing has been confirmed President Uhuru Kenyatta this afternoon. He mourned the late Head of State as a great statesman.

However, the President did not provide finer details about what caused the dead of Kibaki.

Kibaki surged to power in 2002 and served his two terms before the exiting the stage in March 2013.

After his retirement, he led a quiet life, making very few public appearances.
