The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched Kenya’s first-ever live-streaming lessons.
The initiative aimed at addressing the teacher shortage in the country was launched on Wednesday morning, 26th January at Alliance Girls High School in Kiambu county.
According to TSC boss Dr Nancy Macharia, the live streaming of lessons will be piloted for two months, focusing on Sciences, Mathematics and English subjects.
The lessons will be delivered from two principal schools – Alliance Girls High School and Machakos Boys High School – to 10 other satellite schools in the selected sub-counties.
”Students from 110 sub-counties from 30 counties will access live-streaming lessons from teachers of top schools in bid to ease staff shortage,” said Macharia.
Kahi Indimuli, Chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) lauded the initiative terming it as a gamechanger to the education sector.
”Live streaming will be a gamechanger in the way teaching and learning are being done in this country,” said Indimuli.
”We are getting into an era of teachers without borders. We want to appreciate the innovative thinking because it provides us with the chance to share knowledge and apparatus.”
KNUT Secretary General, Collins Oyuu said the technology will improve the performance of learners in targetted subjects and balanced syllabus coverage.
“We shall have better performance of learners in target subjects and balanced syllabus coverage,” he said.
For his part, Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary-General stated that live-streaming lessons would bridge the resources gap in schools.
