The Vitimbi Comedy Show is considered one of Kenya’s classic hits from the 1980s and 1990s.
Vitimbi is set to make a comeback on Monday, April 4th at 7.30 PM only on KBC Channel 1.
Vitimbi is a Kenyan television comedy show that premiered in 1985 on the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation then known as Voice of Kenya. The comedy which was shot using a sketch format revolved around the family of Mzee Ojwang´ and his wife Mama Kayai as they tried to overcome the challenges of managing a restaurant.
The show is considered one of Kenya’s classic hit shows and as a commentary on Kenya’s socio-political experiences according to The Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences published in 2018.
The new show stars Humphrey Ngoni Thuita as Ole Matope, Mary Kabere as Mama Kayai, Francis Njenga as Mogaka and Scolly Cheruto as chemasunde.
Although a rendition of the classic, the show will maintain the same goal of providing commentary on the ordinary day to day lives of ordinary Kenyans.
Speaking about the show, Timothy Ondere, the showś director said, ´´The show will revolve around the beloved characters as they survive the harsh realities of life. Our aim is to show how the disadvantaged in society push and pull and shield one another from those taking advantage of their situations.´´
Vitimbi will premiere on Monday at 7.30 PM only on KBC Channel One.
