Customer Relief: Safaricom Won’t Charge For Transactions Below Sh1000

While confirming two more Coronavirus cases, President Uhuru as part of the COVID-19 outbreak measures implied that Kenya was mulling quarantining banknotes for up to two weeks, he asked Mpesa to lift Sh70,000 M-Pesa transaction ceiling as it pushes digital transactions.

There’s credible fear that bank notes are contributing to the spread of the highly infectious virus.

Safaricom has now waived M-Pesa transaction fees below Sh1,000 fo 90 days, ups daily transaction ceiling to Sh300,000 from Sh140,000 and allows customers to now hold upto Sh300,000 up from Sh140,000 in their Mpesa wallet amid covid-19 outbreak.

The adjustments are likely to encourage cashless transactions and in effect minimize the spread of the virus.
